Keychron Keyboards & mice
The keyboard brand independent testers recommend most often, with excellent boards at fair prices, but strict 7-day returns, parts-only warranty repairs on most models and a weak Trustpilot score you should know about.

Some of the best keyboards you can buy, from a store with strict after-sales terms
Keychron makes mechanical, magnetic (Hall effect) and low-profile keyboards plus mice and accessories. RTINGS, which buys its own test units and has tested more than 35 Keychron models, names a Keychron board its best mechanical keyboard overall.
The products are the strong part. The risk is after the sale. The store only accepts change-of-mind returns within 7 days, you pay return shipping, and most premium series are repaired with replacement parts rather than swapped. Trustpilot sits at 2.9 out of 5 with many complaints about support and defects. Buy the model testers recommend, test it the day it arrives, and keep your invoice.
Right for
- Typists and programmers who want a well-built, customizable wireless keyboard
- Gamers who want magnetic switches with rapid trigger at a lower price than most rivals
- Mac and Windows users who want both keycap sets in the box
Wrong for
- Anyone who wants a generous return window to try a keyboard at home
- Buyers who want a whole-unit swap if something fails under warranty
- People who need fast, guaranteed support replies
+What it gets right
- Independent test results. RTINGS names the Keychron Q6 Ultra 8K its best mechanical keyboard overall and picks the Q5 Max as the best Keychron keyboard.
- Range at every price. The catalogue runs from wired C-series boards near $55 to full-aluminium Q-series boards around $240, in sizes from 40% to full size.
- Built to be modified. Many boards have hot-swappable switches, most run open-source QMK firmware, and the browser-based Keychron Launcher handles remapping without an install.
- Strong magnetic boards. Tom's Guide gave the Q1 HE an Editor's Choice and called it "easily the best metal keyboard money can buy" when it reviewed it.
- Mac and Windows ready. Keycaps for both systems come with fully assembled boards.
−Where it slips
- Only 7 days for change-of-mind returns. Requests must be made within 7 days of delivery, you pay return shipping, and only the product cost is refunded. EU buyers keep a 14-day withdrawal right.
- Parts-only warranty repairs. For the K Pro, K Max, K HE, Q, V and similar series, Keychron replaces only the faulty part, not the keyboard.
- Short cover on wear parts. Keycaps and palm rests have only a 3-month warranty.
- Weak Trustpilot score. 2.9 out of 5 from 403 reviews, with 63% one-star.
- Shipping can pause. On 5 Oct 2026 the store said shipping would resume on 7 Oct because customs was closed for the holidays.
Weighted for the keyboards themselves, then for how buyers are treated after the sale
Product quality and independent test results carry the most weight, followed by returns, warranty and support. This is a desk-research score: we have not tested Keychron products ourselves.
The long version
What independent testers say, what Trustpilot buyers report, and what the store's own policies promise.
What Keychron is
Keychron designs keyboards and mice and sells them through its own regional stores and retailers such as Amazon. The catalogue is built around a few series: the aluminium Q series at the top, the plastic V series as its budget twin, the wireless K series in standard and slim profiles, the wired C series, and HE models with magnetic (Hall effect) switches. Its About page says most of its keyboards are open source and that it brought Bluetooth, 2.4 GHz and Hall effect support to QMK firmware. It also runs a sister gaming brand, Lemokey.
What independent testers say

RTINGS buys its own test units and says it has tested more than 35 Keychron models. On its Best Mechanical Keyboards list, the Keychron Q6 Ultra 8K is the top pick overall. On its Keychron-specific list it recommends the Q5 Max as the best Keychron keyboard, the V5 Max as the best budget model and the wired C1 Pro and C2 Pro as the cheapest options. Its summary is that Keychron offers "a dizzying range of keyboards" at different prices, and that many of them are VIA and QMK compatible.
Tom's Guide gave the Q1 HE an Editor's Choice when it reviewed it in November 2024, calling it "easily the best metal keyboard money can buy right now." It listed the price and the limited choice of switches as the downsides. RTINGS's comparison adds that the much cheaper K2 HE has the same raw rapid-trigger performance as the Q1 HE. The Q1 HE is heavier and gasket mounted, so it feels softer to type on.
Reputation and what buyers report
Trustpilot shows 2.9 out of 5 from 403 reviews, with 63% one-star and 25% five-star. Keychron claimed the profile in June 2026 and has replied to about half of the negative reviews. Happy buyers praise the typing feel, the VIA remapping and some patient support agents who arranged replacement parts without fuss. Unhappy buyers describe defects such as double typing or failing controls after a few months, slow or inconsistent replies, and disputes over return shipping costs.
Keychron keyboards worth a look
Here are four current models from the global store, each recommended by RTINGS directly or as part of a series it tested. The specifications and prices are the brand's own, checked 5 Oct 2026.
Keychron Q6 Ultra 8K
A full-size aluminium keyboard with a gasket mount, Keychron Silk POM switches, an 8,000 Hz polling rate and a 4,000 mAh battery rated for up to 660 hours. It weighs about 2.2 kg. It was $215.99 against a $239.99 list price for the black Brown-switch version. RTINGS ranks it as the best mechanical keyboard it has tested. It suits buyers who want a numpad and a heavy, premium board for typing and programming.

Keychron Q5 Max
A 96% aluminium board with a double gasket mount, Gateron Jupiter switches and wireless up to three Bluetooth devices plus 2.4 GHz. Battery life is rated at up to 180 hours. It costs $239.99 fully assembled or $219.99 as a barebone. RTINGS calls it the best Keychron keyboard because it keeps arrow keys and a numpad in a smaller footprint.

Keychron V5 Max
The plastic-case version of the Q5 Max layout. It has a gasket mount, hot-swap Gateron Jupiter switches, double-shot PBT keycaps and up to 190 hours of battery, and it weighs 925 g. It was $95.99 against $119.99 for the Red-switch version. RTINGS picks it as the best budget Keychron. It has a little less sound-dampening material and a firmer feel than the Q Max boards.

Keychron K2 HE
A 75% wireless keyboard with Gateron magnetic switches, rapid trigger and an actuation point you can set from 0.2 to 3.8 mm. It has an aluminium build, up to 110 hours of battery and weighs 980 g. The standard version was $103.99 against $129.99. Check which switch version you are buying, because only Version 2 supports Keychron's faster Lime magnetic switches.

Returns: only 7 days

This is the main thing to know before you order. The refund policy says Keychron does not accept returns without a quality issue, except that you can ask to return a product within 7 days of delivery. You then pay the return shipping and must send Keychron the tracking number. Keychron refunds only the product cost once the item reaches its warehouse, and refunds take up to 7 working days to process. Orders cannot be cancelled once they have shipped. Consumers in the EU have a separate right to withdraw within 14 days.
Warranty: 12 months, often parts only

The standard warranty lasts 12 months from delivery. Keycaps and palm rests get only 3 months. Cables and accessories bought separately are not covered, and neither is damage from disassembly, modifications, liquid or normal wear. For the basic K and C series, Keychron may replace the whole unit or the faulty part. For the K Pro, K Max, K HE, K Ultra, Q, V, S, C Pro, P and Lemokey L series, it replaces only the defective part. Its reason is that these boards are designed to be rebuilt. You need the original invoice or other proof of purchase to claim.
Shipping and taxes

The store says it ships within 2 business days and lists 4 to 6 business days for keyboards and mice to the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan and Mexico, longer for Europe and parts of Asia. Prices do not include VAT or import tax. The store says US buyers have not been charged import tax in its experience, but it cannot guarantee this. It does not ship to PO boxes, APO/DPO or forwarding addresses. On 5 Oct 2026 the site said shipping would resume on 7 Oct because customs was closed for the holidays, so allow extra time around holidays.
Buying advice
Choose a model that RTINGS or another independent tester recommends. Confirm the layout and switch type before you pay, and test the keyboard as soon as it arrives. Keep your invoice for warranty claims. If you are unsure about the layout or switches, a retailer with a longer return window may be the safer place to buy.

Excellent keyboards, as long as you accept the strict after-sales terms
Keychron earns its reputation on the keyboards themselves. Independent testers keep putting its Q, V and HE boards at the top of their lists, and the prices are fair for aluminium cases, hot-swap switches and open-source firmware.
The caution is what happens if something goes wrong. Seven days is a short window to return a keyboard you don't like, most premium boards are fixed with parts rather than replaced, and Trustpilot buyers report slow or patchy support. Choose a tested model, check it on arrival and keep your invoice.
