Manta Sleep
A blackout sleep-mask brand with adjustable eye cups, a 60-day money-back guarantee and strong editorial recognition. Fit is the make-or-break, and some buyers report pressure and wear.

A well-reviewed blackout mask with a generous trial — if the fit works for your face
Manta Sleep is an established brand with strong independent recognition for blackout performance and a generous 60-day trial. Fit is the catch, because several testers and customers find the cups bulky or pressure-prone.
Buy it if you want true blackout and a mask you can adjust around your face, and treat the 60-day guarantee as part of the deal: wear it for a few weeks before you decide. Skip it if anything bulky near your eyes bothers you.
Right for
- Light sleepers who want true blackout for travel, shift work or bright bedrooms
- Side sleepers who want C-shaped eye cups (PRO and SOUND)
- Buyers who value a long trial and a prepaid return label
Wrong for
- Anyone who dislikes bulky masks or any pressure around the eyes
- Shoppers who only want a simple, cheap eye mask
- Buyers who need a cash refund in every case (the policy says refund or store credit)
+What it gets right
- Strong independent recognition. GearLab named the Original its Best Overall Sleep Mask, Healthline found it comfortable with total blackout, and TIME put the SOUND on its Best Inventions of 2025 list.
- Real blackout. The adjustable, hollow eye cups are designed to keep light out and eyelashes clear, and GearLab’s flashlight test ranked it best of the masks it tested.
- 60-day money-back guarantee. Contact support within 60 days and get a prepaid return label.
- Clear policies. Shipping, returns, exchanges and warranty terms are published in detail.
- A range for different sleepers. Eight mask lines from the $35 Kids mask to the $159 SOUND, plus cooling, steam and weighted versions.
−Where it slips
- Fit is not universal. Reviewers describe the masks as bulkier than traditional ones, and some customers report pressure around the eyes and marks on the face.
- Mixed editorial verdicts. The Points Guy scored the Original 5.5/10 in 2018, and Healthline said it narrowly missed its top picks.
- Durability complaints. Some Trustpilot reviewers report loose threads or worn fasteners.
- Short warranty. 6 months on non-electronic products and 1 year on electronic ones, with replacement of the same product only.
- Refund or store credit. The guarantee requires the item back in good condition and original packaging, and shipping fees are not refunded.
- Promotions are layered. The store lists separate 10%-off versions of products, so check the price you are paying.
Weighted for a sleep product you wear every night
Fit, blackout and returns carry the most weight, because you cannot know whether a mask suits your face until you wear it. This is a desk-research score: we have not worn the masks.
The long version
What the brand's own pages, independent reviewers and customers say, section by section.
First impression
Manta Sleep calls itself the world’s number one sleep-mask brand, a claim we cannot verify. Its About page says the founders came from the corporate grind, designed a mask around adjustable, hollow eye cups, and launched it through a successful Kickstarter campaign. Ten years on, the company says more than two million people use its products.
The store is built around sleep masks and a growing set of accessories: white-noise machines, earplugs, silk pillowcases and travel items. The core idea has not changed. Block out light completely while keeping anything from pressing on your eyelids or lashes.
The range and who each mask is for
The Original is the $39 mask most reviewers test, with removable, repositionable eye cups on an adjustable strap. PRO ($85) and SOUND ($159) use C-shaped cups aimed at side sleepers, with PRO focusing on breathability and SOUND adding thin Bluetooth speakers and a 24-hour battery. SILK ($75) uses 30-momme mulberry silk for sensitive skin. WEIGHTED, COOL and STEAM add gentle pressure, cooling or warmth for $49, and KIDS is $35.

What independent testers say
Opinions are positive but not uniform. GearLab (updated June 2023) named the Original its Best Overall Sleep Mask and Editors’ Choice, praising it as highly adjustable and durable, giving full blackout when the fit is right and ranking it best in its LED flashlight test. Its cons: it takes time to customise, it is bulkier than a traditional mask, and long eyelashes may still touch it.
Healthline (updated May 2025, medically reviewed) found the mask comfortable, adjustable, totally dark and stable all night, but said it narrowly missed its top two picks because the MZOO mask is cheaper with similar moulded cups. The Points Guy was less impressed in 2018, scoring the Original 5.5/10: the reviewer struggled to adjust it on a long flight, and another editor found it “awkward and uncomfortable”. TIME put the SOUND mask on its Best Inventions of 2025 list, and its article notes that TIME earns affiliate commissions.
What customers say
On Trustpilot, Manta Sleep has a 4.3 rating from 594 reviews on a claimed profile: 73% are five stars and 14% are one star. Customers often praise comfort, the movable eye cups and customer service, including quick replies to return requests, and several mention the 60-day window.
The complaints are consistent too. Some say the mask is bulky and puts pressure around the eyes, one reports loose threads after a few uses, and a reviewer called the SOUND mask’s audio poor. ScamAdviser rates the site “Very likely safe” and shows the domain has existed since November 2016.
Fit and comfort
Fit decides whether this mask is great or annoying. The adjustable cups let you move them to match your eyes, which testers like, but several describe a customisation period and a bulkier feel than a simple fabric mask. Side sleepers should look at the PRO or SOUND, whose C-shaped cups are designed to lie flat against a pillow.

Guarantee, returns and warranty
Every Manta comes with a 60-day money-back guarantee. You contact support, receive a prepaid return label by email, and once the item is back in good condition and its original packaging you get either store credit or a refund. Shipping fees paid at purchase are not refunded.
You can also swap for another product within 60 days if it costs the same or less, once per order and at your own shipping cost, which means you can no longer claim a refund for that order. The warranty is six months for non-electronic products and one year for electronic ones, and Manta only replaces the same product after confirming a defect. The warranty is governed by US law and is not extended for customers in other countries.
Shipping and prices
Orders are processed in 1–2 business days. US standard shipping costs $7 below $105 and is free from $105, arriving in 2–3 business days in the contiguous US, while express is a $15 flat rate. International shipping starts at $10 and takes 7–21 business days, with deliveries to several Middle East countries currently paused.
Prices run from about $13 for small accessories to $159 for the SOUND mask. The public product feed lists separate 10%-off versions of many products and discounted bundles, so compare listings before you buy.

A strong, well-reviewed blackout mask — the guarantee does the rest
Manta Sleep earns its reputation. Independent testers rate its blackout performance highly, the range covers different sleepers and budgets, and the 60-day money-back guarantee takes much of the risk out of an intensely personal fit.
The reservations are real, though. The masks are bulky for some faces, customers report pressure and wear, and the warranty is short. Treat the first few weeks as a trial, keep the packaging, and use the guarantee if the mask does not work for you.
