Surfshark VPN
A fast, low-priced VPN with unlimited device connections and audited no-logs claims, but with renewal pricing and refund rules you should read before you subscribe.

A fast, cheap, well-reviewed VPN, as long as you watch the renewal price and refund rules
Surfshark is a consumer VPN from the Netherlands, part of the Nord Security group, that lets you connect an unlimited number of devices on one subscription. Major test sites rate it highly for speed and value, and it has been through independent no-logs audits.
Our research points to a strong all-round VPN, with a 4.3 out of 5 Trustpilot score from more than 31,000 reviews and top places in several editor roundups. The recurring complaints are not about the technology but about the billing: auto-renewal at a higher price, and refunds that cover only a first purchase within 30 days. If you want a cheap, quick VPN for many devices and will set a reminder before renewal, it is an easy one to shortlist.
Right for
- Households or users who want one VPN subscription across many phones, laptops and TVs
- Buyers who want strong speed and an audited privacy policy at a low price
- People who will check the renewal price and cancel or switch before it rolls over
Wrong for
- Anyone who needs refunds on renewals, which are not refundable
- Users who expect a VPN to make illegal activity safe or to bypass every site block
- Those who want an owner with no corporate group ties, as Surfshark is part of Nord Security
+What it gets right
- Strong speed in independent tests. Tom's Guide measured peaks around 1,021 Mbps on a US server, and TechRadar named it its fastest VPN with a local peak of 1,615 Mbps, as shown in search results.
- Top places in editor roundups. PCMag gave it an Editors' Choice award in 2026, and Tom's Guide ranks it first for cheap VPNs and second overall.
- Audited privacy claims. Deloitte audited the no-logs policy at the end of 2022, and a second Deloitte verification was published on 16 June 2025.
- Unlimited connections. The Terms allow an unlimited number of simultaneous connections on the VPN, with the antivirus service limited to five.
- No leaks in testing. Tom's Guide reports no problems with kill switch or DNS-leak tests.
- Low entry price and a refund window. The 2-year plan starts at about €2.49 a month, with a 30-day money-back guarantee on a first purchase.
−Where it slips
- Auto-renewal and price rises. Trustpilot users complain of being charged more at renewal, and the Terms say paid services renew automatically unless you cancel.
- Refunds are narrow. The guarantee covers a first purchase within 30 days, once per service, and all recurring payments are non-refundable.
- Reseller purchases may not qualify. Refunds are limited to purchases through the brand, Paddle, Google Play or Cleverbridge, and gift cards and prepaid cards are excluded.
- Connection stability complaints. Some Trustpilot reviewers describe unstable connections and blocked websites.
- Complex ownership and law. The service is run by Surfshark B.V. in the Netherlands and belongs to the Nord Security group, while the Terms name the British Virgin Islands as governing law.
- Plan add-ons can confuse. Antivirus, identity and data-removal tools are bundled in higher plans, so check what each plan actually includes.
Weighted for speed, privacy evidence, value and the fairness of billing terms
Performance, privacy evidence and value carry the most weight, followed by billing clarity and support. This is a desk-research score: we have not run our own speed or leak tests, and we relied on published test reviews and the brand's own pages.
The long version
What test sites measured, what the brand's own pages say, and where billing and refund rules need a careful read.
What Surfshark is
Surfshark is a consumer VPN service run by Surfshark B.V. in the Netherlands. It merged with Nord Security, the parent of NordVPN, in early 2022, and the two brands continue to operate separately. Reviewers report more than 4,500 servers across about 100 countries, and the brand sells optional extras such as antivirus, alerts, identity tools and a data-removal service in its higher plans.
What test sites found
Independent testers rate it highly. PCMag gave it an Editors' Choice award in 2026, Tom's Guide ranks it first in its cheap VPN guide and second overall, and TechRadar named it its fastest VPN. Tom's Guide measured peaks around 1,021 Mbps connecting to a US server, found no kill switch or DNS leaks, and described it as polished and easy to use at a competitive price.
Privacy and ownership
Deloitte audited Surfshark's no-logs policy at the end of 2022, and a second Deloitte review was published on 16 June 2025. Audits are useful evidence, but they describe a point in time. Surfshark is a Dutch company within the Nord Security group, and its Terms of Service name the British Virgin Islands as governing law, so read the privacy policy if jurisdiction matters to you.
Pricing and renewals

On the EU pricing page the 2-year plans were listed at €2.49 a month for Starter (€67.23 for 27 months), €2.79 for One and €4.49 for One+, with discounts of 79 to 85% against regular pricing. These are intro prices. Paid services renew automatically at the applicable renewal price unless you cancel, and the brand says it emails you in advance for terms longer than a month. Trustpilot users report being charged more than they expected at renewal.
Refunds and what users report
The 30-day money-back guarantee applies to a first purchase, once per service. Recurring payments are non-refundable, and gift cards, prepaid cards, anonymous Dedicated IP, Alternative ID and purchases through most resellers are excluded (Paddle, Google Play and Cleverbridge purchases are covered). The brand may delay a refund until it has verified the account.
Trustpilot shows 4.3 out of 5 from 31,410 reviews on a claimed profile, with 75% five-star and 9% one-star. Praise focuses on helpful support, a simple interface and good speeds. Complaints mention renewal pricing, unstable connections for some users and blocked websites.
Buying advice
Pick the plan that includes the extras you want, note the renewal price and date, and use the 30-day window to test the apps on your own devices and streaming services. If you plan to cancel, do it inside the window to be eligible for a refund.

How this review was put together
This is a desk-research review. We have not run our own speed, leak or streaming tests. Speed, ranking and leak-test findings come from Tom's Guide, TechRadar and PCMag as shown in search results; audit dates, server counts and ownership from published articles and the brand's pages as shown in search results; plan prices from the Surfshark pricing page (EU, in euros); refund, renewal, connection and governing-law terms from the Surfshark Terms of Service and refund policy; reputation from Trustpilot. We wrote our own text. The two images are our own screenshots of the public Surfshark home and pricing pages, taken on 3 Oct 2026 and shown for review and commentary; the content and branding belong to Surfshark, and we will remove them if asked. Surfshark's press kit says its logo and media asset downloads are for non-commercial use only without written permission, so we did not use those files. Surfshark is a trademark of its owner.
